The White Sox announced that they had agreed to sign Kotsay on a one-year contract. Kotsay, who would have been eligible to file for free agency, combined to hit four home runs and 23 RBIs in 67 games with the Red Sox and White Sox in 2009. He was traded to the White Sox on July 28 in exchange for outfielder Brian Anderson. White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen specifically stressed at the end of the 2009 season that he wanted Kotsay back for 2010.
In addition to his production on the field for Chicago, Kotsay also emerged as one of the club's veteran leaders and he was well-liked within the White Sox clubhouse. Kotsay has a career average of .281 with 113 home runs. Since the start of the 1998 season, Kotsay ranks third among all Major League outfielders with 114 assists. Hope he will show up in thewhite sox jersey soon.
